Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Babatz, age 72, of Montrose, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.
She was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Cokato, the daughter of Clifton “Cliff” and Eleanor (Broll) Nelson.
Kathy graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1961. After graduation, she went on to work at First National Bank in downtown Minneapolis, Howard Lake Bank, and Carlson Company.
Kathleen and Donald T. Babatz were joined in holy marriage June 6, 1964, at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Kathy was a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. She was also a member of TOPS and Montrose Remainders.
She enjoyed shopping, crafting, playing cards, playing bingo, going to movies, socializing and visiting with friends and family, and Sunday drives around the community with her husband. Kathy loved being with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Babatz; son, Mark Babatz; parents, Cliff and Eleanor Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Mike Smith; parents-in-law, William “Bill” and Mary Babatz Sr.; sister-in-law Patricia Babatz; brothers-in-law Charles Klopp and Jeff Gaskell; and godfather, Myron Broll.
Katy is survived by her children, Barb (Jeff) Krause of Montrose, Sue (Greg) Dearing of Buffalo, and Alan (Jennifer) Babatz of Montrose; grandchildren Allison (Alex) Peterson, Miranda Krause, Emily Dearing, Ryan Babatz, Ellie Dearing, and Matthew Babatz; and great-grandchildren Brylee Peterson and Adilyn Peterson.
She is further survived by siblings Mary Ann Gaskell, Joyce Nelson, and Rick (Pae) Nelson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law James Babatz, Deloris Klopp, and William (Marlette) Babatz Jr.; godmother Delores Broll; and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, with Father Kenneth O’Hotto as the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.
Friends called Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. There was a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Wednesday morning, Nov. 23 at the church, from 9 until 10:15 a.m.
Kathy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary casket bearers: Allison Peterson, Miranda Krause, Emily Dearing, Ryan Babatz, Ellie Dearing, Matthew Babatz, Brylee Peterson, and Adilyn Peterson.
Casket bearers were Jeff Krause, Greg Dearing, Jennifer Babatz, Alex Peterson, Mitch Weber, and Cody Lindberg.
