Harriet L. Barlau, 90

Harriet L. Barlau, age 90, of Mayer, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the Auburn Home in Waconia.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.

There will be visitation at the church Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Casket bearers will be Jacob Mund, Jason Mund, Dustin Hafner, Michelle Banbury, Heather Mund, and Alissa Kindom.

Harriet was born July 21, 1926, in Halstad, the daughter of Richard and Mildred (Larson) Gustafson. She was baptized Jan. 22, 1927, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Halstad by Rev. Skunes.

At the age of 3 years old, her mother passed away and she went to live with her uncle and aunt, Si and Myrtle Norman of Braham, who became her beloved parents.

Harriet was confirmed in the faith May 11, 1941, at Siola Lutheran Church in Maple Ridge by the Rev. Gustaf Lund.

She graduated from Braham High School, and went on to St. Cloud Teachers College.

In 1947, Harriet married Willis Mund of St. Paul and lived in Alexandria for 20 years. Four children were born to this marriage.

After Willis’ death, Harriet lived in Coon Rapids and was employed by the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

Harriet was married to Ardell Barlau of Mayer Aug. 14, 1971, at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka by Rev. Hylandgren. Harriet spent many happy years on the farm with Ardell. In 2004, the couple moved to Mayer.

Harriet loved reading, crafts, cooking, and coffee, among other things. Having parties, especially with her entire family present, was special to her. She loved to travel out west; one of her favorite destinations was Hawaii.

She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and held various offices. Harriet was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Breezy Hill Homemakers.

In March of 2009, Hariett and Ardell moved to Westview Acres in Waconia. Ardell passed away Jan. 25, 2010.

In addition to her husbands, Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, Si and Myrtle Norman; a daughter, Wendy Banbury; a son, William Mund; and a brother, Richard Stone.

She is survived by her loving family: son Jeffrey (Julie) Mund of Brooklyn Park; daughter Merrie Hagen of Maple Grove; daughter-in-law Caroline Mund of Maple Grove; grandchildren Dustin Hafner, Stephanie (Levi) Fry, Michelle Banbury, Jason Mund, Heather Mund, Ashley (Joel) Callison, Alissa (Nathan) Kindom and Jacob Mund; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Braydon, James, Cole, Sophia, Aaden, Ava Rose, Aadera, Aashlyn, Calab, Alayna, Madilyn, Owen; a sister, Peggy Parker; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Glennys (Dale) Hilk; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
