Lucille Dorothy Broberg, age 98, of Hutchinson, formerly of Dassel, died Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Church of Christ in Dassel.
Jim Milan, pastor of the church, read some of her favorite scriptures. Congregational hymns were also sung.
Lucille Dorothy Broberg, daughter of Martin Silas and Mary Belle (Davis) Wicker, was born on July 25, 1917, in Howard Lake, MN. Lucille grew up in Howard Lake until her the family moved to Dassel when she was 16. She attended both the Howard Lake School and the Dassel High School.
Lucille was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Dassel and had been baptized in the Christian faith at the age of 10.
On April 12, 1941, Lucille was united in marriage to Clardie Broberg at the Church of Christ in Litchfield. Together they made their home in Dassel, where they raised their two children.
Lucille had been employed at Universal Lab picking ergot. She was a clerk at Lawson’s Dime Store, Harvey’s Red & White, and Stu’s Red Owl. She had also been employed at Storm Industries making chicken nests, until her retirement in 1979.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends for holidays and special events. She loved to be in her garden taking in all of the beauty of her flowers. She enjoyed board games, and when she was young she liked to play marbles, often beating the boys.
Lucille loved to travel and they had traveled through most of the USA and Canada. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, and was able to attend a game in the new stadium.
She is survived by her children, Jeffery Broberg of Eden Prairie, Maribel and Roger Gilmer of Dassel, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Lawrence Wicker, and Wilton as a young boy.
