Cecelia Ann Checkal, age 92, of Delano, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, prior to the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home of Delano.
Cecelia was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Forest City Township, to Martin and Mary (Wimmer) Wanderscheid.
She married Ernest Checkal June 24, 1947, in Litchfield.
Cecelia had a deep faith, and was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
She volunteered as the playground monitor, and became known as “the playground lady,” at St. Peter School.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Cecelia enjoyed canning, sewing, and was an excellent cook, known for her fried chicken.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; son David; and son-in-law Dave Williams.
Cecelia is survived by her children, Mary (Roger) Hendricks, Janice Williams, John (Paulette) Checkal, Joe Checkal, Steven (Lori) Checkal, and Charlie (Betty) Checkal; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene “Cis” Nelson.
