Joseph F. Fasching, 85

Joseph Francis Fasching, age 85, of Winsted, passed away peacefully Friday, July 15, 2016, surrounded by family on the family farm where he was born, raised, and to which he dedicated his life.

Joe was born April 12, 1931, on the farm in Winsted to Joseph and Appolonia (Stifter) Fasching.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Joe began farming after attending Holy Trinity Catholic School.

He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War, where he led the 29th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Joseph Fasching and Anne Wawrzyniak were united in holy marriage May 18, 1953, at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. The two were blessed with 15 children.

Joe had a love of the land and farming. His life centered around raising a family, raising crops, and tending to his herd. His family was his pride and joy, and he always had time for his wife of 63 years, his 15 children, 32 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Joe enjoyed watching all sports, including professional and college, and especially watching his children and grandchildren play high school sports. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

A devout Catholic, Joe prayed the rosary religiously.

One of his hobbies was making homemade meats, especially his famous sausage.

Joe was a member of the Winsted Farmer’s Co-op Creamery Board, Winsted Township Board, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and American Legion Post 407 in Winsted.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Anne Fasching; children: Jim Fasching, Douglas (Vicki) Fasching, Karen (Charlie) Kubesh, Gary (Cindy) Fasching, Sharon (Tony) Vanderlinde, Mary (Brad) Schmidt, Rita Fasching, Joel (JoEllen) Fasching, Dean (Kate) Fasching, Laura (Paul) Volness, Teresa (Wade) Jagodzinski, Barb Fasching, Gerald (Sara) Fasching, Joleen Fasching, and LuAnn (Harold) Blanchette; and grandchildren: Christopher and Andrea Fasching, Mike and Zach Fasching, Alyssa , Joseph (fiancée Carly), Emily, and Kyle Kubesh, Megan (Tim) Engelman, Jeff Fasching, Samantha ( Josh) Howard, Alex and Derek Vanderlinde, Ben (Tessa) Schmidt, Sydney and Danielle Schmidt, Keith Fasching, Audrianna (Andrew) McNeil, Kirsten (Chris) Hedtke, Jen (Aaron) Lynch, Mitch Fasching, Jake, Angela, Bailey and Josh Volness, Julia, Anna, and Luke Jagodzinski, Shelby, Matthew, and Rebecca Fasching, and Jordan Fasching; and step grandchildren: Scott (Angie) Sufka, Laura (Jeff) Campbell, and Ryan Sufka.

He is further survived by great-grandchildren Arabella and Reagan Engelman, Maddie Hedtke, and Colton Howard; siblings Edward (Irene) Fasching, Jack Fasching, Irene Otto, Grace (Jim) Nolan, Rose (Syl) Mallak, and Linda (Gary) Ruhland; brother-in-law Florian Fiecke; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Appolonia Fasching; daughter-in-law Karen Fasching; siblings Engelbert Fasching, Finn Fasching, Clarina McInnes, Luella Kaczmarek, and Marietta Nowak; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Fr. Paul Schumacher as the celebrant.

Urn bearers were Keith Fasching and Jordan Fasching.

There was visitation Thursday July 21 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church, continuing Friday one hour prior to the Mass.
