Lorren E. Glessing, 88

Lorren Eugene Glessing, age 88, of Howard Lake, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center.

He was born March 8, 1928, on the family farm in Victor Township, the son of Henry and Emma (Zech) Glessing. Lorren was the youngest child of their seven children.

A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Lorren was baptized April 8, 1928, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz; and confirmed in his faith March 29, 1942, by the same.

Lorren attended Rice Lake School until seventh and eighth grades, when he attended St. James Lutheran School. He then attended Howard Lake Public School until the age of 15, when he began to farm full time on the family farm.

Loren was united in marriage to Jeanne Wills June 9, 1951. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Neal and Dawn.

As a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, he served as an usher, an elder, and on the Stewardship Board.

Lorren enjoyed every aspect of farming, especially his dairy herd. He took great pride in taking care of God’s soil and animals.

Lorren entered the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center in June 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Glessing; four brothers, Warren, Omar, Howard and Maurice; and two sisters, Mabel Sherva, and Eva Handrich.

Lorren is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Howard Lake; a son, Neal and his wife, Marnie, of Howard Lake; a daughter, Dawn and her husband, Dan Sawatzke of Waverly; grandsons David Glessing, Andrew (Nicolle) Sawatzke, and Joe (Beth) Sawatzke; granddaughters Jeanne (Justin) Hertzog, and Abby Sawatzke and friend Brad Ficker; and three great-grandchildren: Kayden, Addison, and Lachlynn Sawatzke.

He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Sovde of Golden Valley; brothers-in-law Darrel Wills of Kimball, and Lloyd Wills of Eagan; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Monday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating. Nancy Butterfass was the organist; and Rev. Loder was the soloist.Interment followed at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

There was visitation Sunday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Monday at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Casket bearers were Andrew Sawatzke, Joe Sawatzke, Jeanne Hertzog, Abby Sawatzke, David Glessing, and Dan Glessing.
