Delores May Hafemann, age 80, of New Germany, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at her home.
She was born May 11, 1935, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Paul and Ida (Schultz) Bessel. Delores was baptized June 9, 1935, and confirmed in 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine by the Rev. P.J. Haupt.
Delores went to country grade school number 25 near Belle Plaine, and later graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1953.
She was united in marriage to Ortwin F. Hafemann June 10, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine by the Rev. Herder.
Delores was a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, farm animals, and Sunday afternoon drives. But, most of all, Delores loved her family. She especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, and when it was time to leave, she never said good bye; it was always “See you later.”
Some of Delores’ other hobbies were fishing, taking pictures, bird watching, crafting her special cards for her family for special occasions, and going out to eat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ida Bessel; grandson Baby Hafemann; sisters Violet Stier, and Florence (Harold) Otto; brothers Warren Bessel, Roy Bessel, and Willie Bessel; and brothers-in-law Joe Madlo, and Norman Mielke.
Delores is survived by her loving family: husband Ortwin Hafemann; children Susan Hafemann of Norwood Young America, Linda (David) Becker of Mayer, Steven (Amy) Hafemann, Douglas (Julie) Hafemann, all of New Germany; and Karen (Marlyn) Loehrs of Cologne; grandchildren Brian Becker, Laura Becker, Jeremy Hafemann (fiancée Alyssa), Jason Hafemann (special friend Samantha), Jared Hafemann, Reid Hafemann (special friend Miranda), Kimberly Hafemann, Jennifer (Zach) Seibert, and Kristine Loehrs (special friend Tyler); and great-grandson Noah Becker.
She is further survived by a sister, Rose Madlo of Le Center; sisters-in-law Mabel Bessel of Lonsdale, Virginia Bessel of Belle Plaine, and Glenna Mielke of Arlington; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Delores’ funeral service took place Thursday, Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
There was visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Delores’ grandchildren were her casket bearers.
Laura Becker was the cross bearer.
