David ‘Lars’ Hanson, 74

David Gordon “Lars” Hanson, age 74, of Austin, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016, surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Austin to Clarence and Violet (Beck) Hanson.

David graduated from Austin High in 1959, and was a lifelong resident of “Spam City.”

He was employed by American Can Company in Austin, for most of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and eventually retired from the US Postal Service in 2003, after 23 years of service.

The game of basketball was David’s true passion, be it playing, coaching, refereeing, or collecting basketball memorabilia. Though he was known for his extensive collection, and uncanny knowledge of trivia, what he enjoyed most was watching his grandchildren play basketball or any other sport.

David was a loving father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Violet Hanson.

David is survived by his children, Tamara (Paul) Pulis, and Tim (Tammie) Hanson; grandchildren Cole, Grayson, Dalton, and Logan Pulis, and Jake, Zach and Christina Hanson; and a brother, Steven Hanson.

A memorial service took place Thursday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at the Crane Chapel in Austin.

Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home of Delano.
