Darlene Magdalene Heuer, age 80, of Lester Prairie, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at her home in Lester Prairie.
She was born Sept. 16, 1935, in Victor Township, Wright County, the daughter of Otto and Esther (Schroeder) Heuer.
Darlene was baptized as an infant Nov. 3, 1935, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake; and was confirmed in her faith June 30, 1983, by the Rev. Charles R. Wind at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Darlene received her education at the Minneapolis School for the Deaf.
She made her home on the family farm in Howard Lake, and then, in the 1970s, moved to Lester Prairie. Over the years, Darlene took care of her parents and did cleaning for others.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie..
Darlene enjoyed sewing, needlework, crossword puzzles, and tending her flower garden. She loved the companionship of her dogs, and always took special care of them.
Darlene valued caring for others and the friendships she had in the deaf community.
She is survived by her cousins, Jay Anderson of Phoenix, AZ, and Laurel Hinkle and her husband, Craig, of North Mankato; guardian and friend, Virginia Banke of Lester Prairie; her beloved dog, Cocoa; and many friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Esther Heuer; and special friend, Orville Heldt.
Funeral services took place Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Special music included “How Great Thou Art,” and “ I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Interment followed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
