Jerrold Hoogland Obituary – 2/13/2016

Jerrold R. “Jerry” Hoogland, age 56, of Becker, passed away Saturday Feb. 13, 2016, at his home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1960, the son of James and Judy (Van Peursem) Hoogland. Jerry was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, New Germany; and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.

A very hard worker, Jerry was in partnership with his brother operating Brothers Meat and Seafood in Maple Grove and Brothers Storage in Corcoran.

In his younger years, Jerry liked to ride his motorcycle to many different destinations. He loved spending time with his nephews and niece, giving them a bad time whenever he had the chance.

As a young man, Jerry was spontaneous and very outgoing. Even though he chose a more humble private lifestyle in middle age, he still found time to help anyone in need and contribute what he could afford to nearly everyone who needed help with a school, church or medical fundraiser.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, James Hoogland; infant brother John Hoogland; and grandparents Ralph and Lorraine Van Peursem, and Vernon and Sophie Hoogland.

He is survived by his loving family: mother Judy Hoogland of Watertown; brother Joel Hoogland and fiancée Paige Coryell of Maple Plain; nephews and niece Joshua (Whitney) Hoogland, Jason (Allie) Hoogland, and Jennifer Hoogland and boyfriend Roger Moritz; great nephews and niece Wyatt, Alex and Dylan; special friend Mary Hedin of Becker and her sons. Andy and Josh, and grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. There was a gathering of family and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment was at Watertown Public Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia. www.johnsonfh.com.
