Willard “Willie” Emil Knop, age 80, of Annandale, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born June 1, 1936, in Franklin Township, Wright County, the son of William Carl and Gladys A. (Wandersee) Knop.
Willie was baptized June 18, 1936, by the Rev. E.H. Bruns. He was instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith July 3, 1949, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Delano by the Rev. M.J. Lenz.
Willie graduated from Delano High School in 1952.
He was joined in holy marriage with Darlene Ramthun Sept. 28, 1957, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church-Crawford Lake by the Rev. Alvin Schultz. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Willie was employed with Texaco Gas Station, and worked for more than 40 years as a farmer and truck driver.
In 1980, Willie and Darlene moved to Annandale and became faithful members of Zion Lutheran Church. While a member of Zion, Willie served as an elder and was a member of the church council.
He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, playing softball, hunting, and fishing. Willie was full of . . . zingers!
He is survived by his children: Terry Knop, Jeff Knop, Vicky Knop, and Kari (Paul) Peterson; eight grandchildren: Kortney and Kyle (Megan); Karli (Jon), Chelsey and Chloe; Kellen; and Evan and Isaac; three great-grandchildren: Aubrie, Easton, and Parker; a sister, Eloise (Nick) Mazanyi; and many other close relatives and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Knop; parents William and Gladys Knop; daughters-in-law Patricia Knop and Debra Knop; sister-in-law Muriel Ramthun; and brother-in-law Dick Pageau.
Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with the Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Private interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery-Crawford Lake in Buffalo.
There was visitation Thursday, Dec. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and also Friday, one hour prior to the services at the church.
Casket bearers were Kyle Knop, Dan Lindsey, Dave Roth, Pete Roth, Tim Roth, and Mike Roth.
Todd Roth, AJ Lindsey and Michael Ramthun were honorary casket bearers.
