Darrel G. Kutzke, age 76, of Mayer, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Waconia, the son of Gilbert and Dorothy (Hoese) Kutzke. Darrel was baptized Sept. 15, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Schwandt; and confirmed in the faith April 11, 1954, at the same church by the Rev. Rische.
Darrel was a graduate of Waconia High School class of 1958.
He was united in marriage to Judithe A. Spaulding Aug. 27, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Riedel.
Darrel especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, and talking to people was one of his favorite things to do.
He lived on the home farm all his life, actively farming until 1987. Darrel continued helping out on the farm doing farm work and driving tractor whenever possible. He had also hauled balk milk for Russell Olson for 15 years, worked at Silo/Matic, and had worked for CH Carpenter Lumber until his retirement in 2007.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Dorothy Kutzke; grandson Andrew Kutzke; and step son-in-law John Latour.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Judy Kutzke; sons Dale (Linda) Kutzke of Mayer, and Dean (Shari) Kutzke of Norwood Young America; daughter Dawn Kutzke and friend Cindy of Lester Prairie; step daughter Anna Ryan of South Haven; step son Rollin (Karin) Ryan of California; grandchildren Jennifer (James) Reimer, Ryan Kutzke, Kayla Kutzke; step grandchildren Danielle Latour (fiancé Jason Luke), Chenin Ryan; and great-grandchildren Gavin Reimer and Landon Reimer.
Darrel is further survived by sisters Darla (Robert) Diethelm of Victoria, and Lynette (Ken) Templin of Faribault; brothers Wayne (Linda) Kutzke of Coon Rapids, and Mardell Kutzke of Moose Lake; sister-in-law Georgia Spaulding of Navarre; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Revs. Lucas Woodford and Adam Gless officiating. The interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Mayer.
Visitation took place Friday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers were Bob Kieser, Tim Kieser, Ryan Kutzke, James Reimer, Jason Luke, and Rick Hoppe.
Amy Maloney and Julie Kutzke were honorary casket bearers.
