Reuben Lehtola, age 87, of Merrifield, MN, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Essentia-St. Joe’s Hospital in Brainerd.
He was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Cokato, to Matt and Emma (Kurtako) Lehtola.
Reuben joined the US Marine Corp in 1951, and served during the Korean Conflict.
Following his service, he cam home and ran the family farm in Cokato.
Reuben was a self-employed painter, and also worked for the state hospital in Moose Lake and Brainerd until retirement.
He enjoyed reading, camping, canoeing, and fishing; and he loved RVing with his honey.
Reuben is survived by his children, David (Rebecca) Lehtola of Aitkin, Michelle (Troy) Willi of Ellsworth, WI, Steven (Linda) Lehtola of Hastings, Renee (James) Blocker of Merrifield, and Kevin Bauer of Hastings; grandchildren, Jenna, Alexander, Carly, Mitchell, Natasha, Samantha, Marko and Megi; and sisters-in-law Mardis (Jerry) Gilmer, and Joan (Darrell) Heuer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Emma Lehtola; his wife, Jeanette; and nine brothers and sisters, Henry, Ernest, Wayne, Karl, Donald, Sylvia, Martha, Ellen and Esther.
Services took place Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with Pastor Erika Nilsen officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the services. Interment was at the National Cemetery in French Lake.
Arrangements were entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
