Roger E. Lothringer, age 82, of Cass Lake, formerly of Howard Lake, passed away Saturday Feb. 13, 2016, at the Auburn Home in Waconia.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Auburn Home Chapel (594 Cherry St.) in Waconia, with the Rev. Jeanine Alexander officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Roger was born April 29, 1933, in Ft. Dodge, IA, the son of Martin and Alma (Polson) Lothringer.
He graduated from Montgomery High School, class of 1951; and attended the University of Minnesota from 1951 to 1952.
Roger served in the United States Army from 1953-1956, being a Korean War veteran.
He worked at Red Owl Stores for 35 years, retiring in 1986.
Roger had a very strong faith, and found great joy being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cass Lake.
He loved being with his grandchildren, and keeping up with whatever they had going on in their lives.
Roger was an empathetic man, and was grateful for the love and care shown by the staff at Auburn Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Maxine Lothringer; grandson Benjamin Gehrz; sister Carol Lothringer; and long-time companion Wanda Bennett.
Roger is survived by his loving family; daughters Tamara (Jed) Zander of Howard Lake, and Michelle (Jon) Gehrz of Plymouth; grandchildren Tyler Zander, Peter Zander, Amber Zander, Christopher Zander, and Nate Gehrz; former spouse Corrine Skrukrud of Howard Lake; and other relatives and friends.
