Ross Nelson, 89

Ross Nelson, age 89, of Watertown, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Santiago Township, Sherburne County, the son of Nels and Myrtle (Ross) Nelson. Ross was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Glendorado, MN.

He was united in marriage to Pearl C. Franzen May 17, 1947, in Glendive, MT.

Ross never met a stranger, always engaging in conversation with anyone he came in contact with. He was quite a storyteller, not knowing if all that he said was always the truth.

Ross had a knack with wood working; he built bird houses and could repair almost anything that needed fixing. He had a healthy appetite, enjoying a homemade meal would make his day.

Ross kept himself busy by listening to old tyme music, reading, and gardening. The most important aspect of his life was the love he had for his children and grandchildren, and he cherished the time spent with them. He had a never ending love for his wife of 69 years, Pearl.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Myrtle Nelson; sons Dallas and Robert Nelson; grandson Clayton Morrow; sons-in-law James Schulz and Dennis Noeldner; and 12 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving family: wife Pearl; children Carol Noeldner of Chanhassen, Rita Clark of Norwood Young America, Marvin (Evelyn) Nelson of Grand Rapids, Lou Ann Schulz of Stacy, Nels (Cheryl) Nelson of Mayer, Cheyenne Morrow (Al Kestner) of Winsted, and Laramie (Kurt) Kalli of Longville; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Ross is further survived by sisters Loretta Jenson of Minneapolis, Valborg (Dean) Molin of St. Michael, and Marie Hickman-Berg of Monticello; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Irma Schieffer of Wibaux, MT; Maurice Franzen, and Cheryl Franzen-Befus of Gillette, WY; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

His funeral service took place Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. There was visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment was at Watertown Public Cemetery.

Ross’ grandchildren, Aaron Noeldner, Rory Hoese, Destry Nelson, Dalton Morrow, Alexis Kalli, Carrie Peterson, and Shayle Dominguez, were his casket bearers.
