Clifford Richard Salmela was born Feb. 16, 1941, to Richard and Fannie (Wanha) Salmela of Cokato. He was the third of five children.
Cliff attended school in Cokato.
In 1959, he joined the US Navy and served two tours. Upon return from his military service, Cliff began working in the garment industry. He worked in Philadelphia, PA; Minneapolis; and on the west coast.
Cliff is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Tom) Breslin of Philadelphia, PA, and Janet Salmela of Reno, NV; a son, Richard of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Margaret “Muggs” (Leonard) Kieser of Winsted, and Verna Quale of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Patrick Breslin and Jessica Breslin, both of Philadelphia, PA, and Jazzlyn Salmela and Rafael Salmela, both of Reno, NV; Silveria Salmela (mother of Janet) of Reno, NV; and several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Fannie; two brothers, Jimmie and Clarence (Kelly), both in the last year; brother-in-law Dennis Quale; niece Penny Quale; and Jeri Salmela (mother of Lisa and Richard).
He passed away Aug. 9, 2016 at Reno, NV. A memorial service took place Friday, Aug. 19, at Norhtern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV.
