Roylan Schmidt, 93

Roylan G. Schmidt age 93 of Waconia formerly of Watertown passed away Friday Aug. 12, 2016 at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

Funeral service was Thursday Aug. 18, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Robert Alsleben officiating. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church with interment in the church cemetery.

Roylan was born Feb. 22, 1923 in Watertown Twp. the son of Frank and Emma (Lindenberg) Schmidt. He was baptized April 22, 1923 and later confirmed in the faith March 31, 1944. On July 26, 1952 Roylan was united in marriage to Leola Birkholz at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Watertown.

He liked working on his family generation farm, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and taking annual vacations with his wife, Leola. He loved the long drives they took with the truck camper to surrounding states for the week that they were gone in the summertime.

He enjoyed maintaining the flower and vegetable gardens after Leola couldn’t do it anymore. He enjoyed seeing his children and grandchildren.

In later years, he spent his time playing cards, playing bingo, and painting pictures. He was complimented many times on his large assortment of potted flowers blooming by his window.

Roylan was preceded in death by his wife Leola; parents Frank and Emma Schmidt; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Agnes Birkholz; sisters Mervanna (Martin) Baumann, Malinda (Art) Ketcher, Leona (Elmer) Ketcher; brother Wilfred (Ina) Schmidt; sister-in-law Veldora Mathews; brother-in-law Edmund Ehrke.

Roylan is survived by his loving family: son and daughter-in-law Larry and Carol Rose Schmidt of Watertown; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Craig Thaemert of Belle Plaine.

Further surviving him are grandchildren Lee and Stacy Schmidt of Medina, Mitch Thaemert and significant other Heidi Davis of Edina, Katelyn Thaemert of Belle Plaine; great-grandchildren Laila Schmidt, Minka Schmidt, Jameson Schmidt, Michael Davis, Mason Davis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lee and Sue Birkholz of Jordan; Glendora Ehrke of Glencoe, Arsylvia and Jon Radtke of Hutchinson, Norman Mathews of Glencoe; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Casket bearers were Larry Schmidt, Lee Schmidt, Craig Thaemert, Mitch Thaemert, Russ Victorian, and Randy Ketcher.

Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
