Ruth M. Schwartz, 87

Ruth M. Schwartz, age 87, of New Germany, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Watertown, the daughter of William and Hannah (Jones) Nelson. Ruth was baptized October 1928 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown; and confirmed May 30, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. N. Wm. Anderson.

Ruth was united in marriage to Gilbert C. Schwartz Oct. 23, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. N. Wm. Anderson.

Ruth treasured the time she spent with her family, especially when the entire family was together. She had a knack for making the most wonderful pies that everyone enjoyed.

She liked to garden and can the produce that she grew. She also enjoyed doing search-a-word, and watching game shows on TV.

Ruth was always willing to help out the St. Mark Ladies Aid when needed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Schwartz; parents William and Hannah Nelson; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Walter Klaustermeier; father-in-law and mothers-in-law Charles and Lena Schwartz, and Anna Schwartz; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Norman and Marion Schwartz, Elmer and Marcy Schwartz, Helen and Eldor Roepke, and Hilda and Alois Schmalz.

Ruth is survived by her loving family: children Jerry (Cathy) Schwartz of Norwood Young America, Don (Patti) Schwartz of Watertown, Duane (Sharon) Schwartz of Plymouth, and Elaine (Tom) Wischnack of Norwood Young America; grandchildren Tracy and Adam Zabel, Michael Schwartz, Christopher and Lisa Schwartz, Katie and Matt Oltrogge, Jennifer and Charlie Steingas, Jacqueline and Jesse Rightler, Jocelyn and Wes Boll, Jonathan and Jenny Schwartz, Andrew Wischnack, and Alex Wischnack; great-grandchildren Zachery, William, Ben and Natalie Steingas, Harper, Henry and Graham Rightler, and Nora, Lydia and Meredith Boll; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services took place Monday, June 27 at 11 am. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

There was visitation Sunday, June 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m, and continuing Monday one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Ruth’s grandsons: Michael Schwartz, Jonathan Schwartz, Christopher Schwartz, Andrew Wischnack, and Alex Wischnack; and nephew James Klaustermeier.

Granddaughters Jennifer Steingas, Jacqueline Rightler, Jocelyn Boll, Tracy Zabel, and Katie Oltrogge were honorary casket bearers.
