Robert Frank Sopkowiak, age 70, of Silver Lake, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Cedar Crest.
He was born July 24, 1945, in Hutchinson, the son of Frank and Agnes (Phillipp) Sopkowiak.
Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Robert was joined in marriage with Jutta Brocks Feb. 24, 1967, in Wiesbaden, Germany. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.
Robert was formerly employed at 3M for 36 years.
He enjoyed motorcycles, traveling, fishing, hunting, and working in his shop.
Robert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and also belonged to the Silver Lake American Legion Post and the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club. He was a past president of the Sportsman’s Club, and a chaplain of the American Legion Post.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jutta; three daughters: Melissa (Brian) Ortloff, Michele (Mark) Mlinar, and Monica Sopkowiak and fiancé Chris Everson, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren: Nick (Jenny) Ortloff of Hutchinson, Michael Ortloff of Sartell, and Paige, Kaitlyn and Andrei Mlinar, all of Hutchinson; a sister, Kathleen (Jerry) Thissen of Hutchinson; three nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Frank; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Hilde Brocks.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Paul Schumacher was the celebrant. Nick Ortloff was the urn bearer. Interment with military rites followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Silver Lake.
There was visitation Sunday, Jan. 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Monday morning, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Arrangements were with the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.
