Viola E. Stender, 99

Viola E. Stender, age 99, of New Germany, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.

Viola was born May 9, 1916, in Hollywood Township, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Goede) Rudloff. She was baptized June 4, 1916, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W.L. Ernst; and confirmed in 1930, by the same.

Viola was united in marriage to Alvin A. Stender Nov. 26, 1939, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

Viola loved working various jobs on the farm, besides gardening and caring for her family. She liked the busy life, but still found time for quilting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; parents Paul and Anna Rudloff; sisters Hilda Noerenberg, and Lorena Noerenberg; and brothers Edward, Walter and Carl Rudloff.

Viola is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters-in-law Harlan and Barbara Stender of New Germany, and Milan and LeAnn Stender of Mayer; daughter and son-in-law Cherryl and James Braunwarth of Norwood Young America; grandchildren Allen (Lisa) Stender, Dawn Stender and friend Jesse, Michael (Sharon) Stender, Anna (Ryan) Strand, James C. Braunwarth, and Matthew Braunwarth and fiancé Glen Carey; great-grandchildren Spencer and Rachael Stender, Brianna and Jacob Oman, and Gabrielle, Owen, Patrick and Hailey Strand; great-great-grandson Liam Stender; sister Edna Arnold of Annandale; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Friday, April 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Viola’s grandchildren were her casket bearers.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
