Darril Orville Telecky, age 72, of Winsted, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1944, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital, the son of Henry and Ruth (Bryngelson) Telecky.
Darril was baptized Nov. 26, 1944, at Stockholm Lutheran Church, rural Cokato, by the Rev. Godfrid Carlson. He was confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake.
Darril received his early education in Winsted and Howard Lake, and graduated from Howard Lake High School May 31, 1962. He furthered his education by attending St. Cloud State University, and also the University of Minnesota.
Darril was united in marriage to Linda Custer April 8, 1967, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The couple made their home in Winsted, and their marriage was blessed with two children, Jill and Aaron. They shared over 49 years of marriage.
Darril was employed by Mammoth Industries for a few years, then Sterner Lighting Systems for 37 years. After the closing of that company, he was employed by Tetra Pak for a short while.
He played a fender bass guitar in a band named The Chiantis, with Dick Roufs, Bob Kappel, and Dave Sherman, for many fun-packed years.
Darril was an assistant wrestling coach for Holy Trinity Catholic High School, and he was honored by having some of his team members compete in the state championships.
Darril also served as a member of the Winsted Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.
He was a competitor, and enjoyed trap shooting, bowling, and horseshoe leagues. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with the family. His John Deere lawn tractor was in constant motion in the yard, as was the golf cart.
Darril was a proud and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winsted, and after its closing Oct. 13, 1996, became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake.
Darril was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Telecky; a brother, Dale; and a sister, Debbie.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Jill (Tony) Adrian of Yorktown, VA; a son, Aaron (Anna) Telecky of Rochester; grandchildren Nikolas and Samantha Adrian, and Isabelle, Ruthie and “Sully” Telecky; brothers: Duane Telecky of Hill City, MN, and Douglas (Cathy) Telecky of Winsted; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Darril was an organ donor through the University of Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life service took place Saturday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake with Pastor Jake Van Pernis officiating. Bruce Gatz was the vocalist for the service.
There was a memorial wake Friday, Aug. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
