Carmen M. Benson, 99

Carmen Maxine Benson, age 99, of Delano, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at the Delano Golden Living Center.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, 3976 County Line Rd., Delano. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.

Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Carmen was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Austin, to Alfred and Anna (Rossow) Ruland.

She was a past long-time employee of Cargill.

A world traveler, Carmen had visited most of the continents.

She was a very social, positive person; and was active at the Delano Senior Center, and then the Golden Living Center. Carmen was a good role model for those she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Robert; grandson John Heyen; and sisters Helen Ruland and Ruth (Norman) Rasmussen.

Carmen is survived by her children, Carol Heyen, Al (Pat) Benson, Brenda Martens, and Chuck Benson; grandchildren Barbara Heyen, Kathy Rasmussen, and Steven (Aimee) Martens; and great-grandchildren Josh and Jacinda Warnemunde, Anton and Cassie Smith, and Colin, Carley and Christian Martens.
