Dennis G. Borrell, age 54, of Golden Valley, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, after a courageous nine-year battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He spent his final day at his very special place, Lake Augusta, surrounded by family.
Visitation and Mass services will both take place Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Delano. Ashes will be interred at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waverly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the International Independent Showman’s Museum, Attn: Doc Rivera, 6938 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL 33578. Please note the funds will be used for the restoration of Royal American Shows carnival wagon #114 in Dennis Borrell’s name.
Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
Dennis will be remembered as captain of his pontoon, a photographer and history curator of Carnival, an art deco aficionado, and as a kind, loving person.
He was raised in Delano, and worked for 31 years for CenturyLink Communications. He also drove streetcars at MN Streetcar Museum at Lake Harriet, and wrote for Carnival Midway Magazine.
Dennis is survived by his partner of eight years, David Larson of Golden Valley; parents Gerald and Therese Borrell of Delano; brother George (Mary) Borrell of Champlin; sisters Jenine Johnson of Helena, MT, Paula (Stuart) Pysick of Watertown, and Julie (Tony) VanBeusekom of Loretto; five nephews; 10 nieces; and countless other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nanette Blanchette.
