Michael James Callais, age 61, of Lester Prairie, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at his home.
He was born Sept. 7, 1955, in Paynesville, the son of James and Isabelle (Hilsgen) Callais. Mike was baptized as an infant Nov. 6, 1955, by Father Harold Whittet at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South St. Paul; and confirmed in his Catholic faith as a youth May 14, 1967, by Father Varley at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Henry.
Mike received his education in Paynesville, graduating with the Paynesville High School class of 1973. He furthered his education by attending St. Cloud Technical in St. Cloud, and was a master electrician.
Mike made his home in Lester Prairie. His life was blessed with three children, Angela, Jamie, and John.
A talented electrician for almost 40 years, Mike owned and operated MJC Electric in Lester Prairie, and worked for Lite Electric in Cokato.
Mike was a creative man with an entrepreneurial spirit. He was always inventing new things and fixing others. He loved spending time on the water, with his antique boat or waterskiing. Mike’s favorite times were with his many friends and family, listening to music, talking, and enjoying life.
He is survived by his mother, Isabelle Callais of Cold Spring; fiancée Janet Frauendienst of Lester Prairie; children Angela Callais of Minneapolis, Jamie Callais and his wife, Deana, of Kabetogama, MN, and John Callais of Hutchinson; grandchildren Quinn Williams, and Eli Callais; and step children Sara Diaz and her husband, Demetrio, of Prior Lake, Kurtis Frauendienst of Winthrop, Sheila Wurtzberger and her husband, Ed, of New Ulm, and Tadd Frauendienst and his wife, Maria, of Gaylord.
Mike is further survived by step grandchildren Mara Diaz, Liliana Diaz, Aiden Diaz, Taylin Diaz, Jacob Frauendienst, Dawson Frauendienst, Tristin Frauendienst, Adrean Wurtzberger, Peyton Wurtzberger, Taven Wurtzberger, Miles Wurtzberger, Brianna Frauendienst, Brady Frauendienst, Nathan Frauendienst, and Ethan Frauendienst; and step great-grandchildren Jaylen Diaz, and Giovanni Diaz.
In addition, Michael is survived by siblings Diane Gondringer of Cold Spring, Theresea Sonne and her husband, James, of Sharpsburg, GA, Cyrus Callais and his wife, Stephanie, of Pine Island, and LeRoy Callais and his wife, Dianna, of Richmond; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, James Callais; and infant brother Lawrence Henry.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Paul Schumacher officiating. Alice Nowak was the organist. Soloist Quinn Williams performed “Let It Be.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” John Callais was the urn bearer, and Angela Callais and Jamie Callais were honorary urn bearers.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
