Derek Lee Dreier, age 28, of Norwood Young America, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 15, 1988, in Waconia, Carver County, the son of Larry and Debra (Stoeckmann) Dreier. He was baptized into the Christian faith, and later confirmed in April 2004.
Derek graduated from Mayer Lutheran High School in 2007. He studied at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls.
Derek reflected God’s love for His children by his care of God’s vast creation including his beloved family and friends, and his wide range of cherished animals. This was seen throughout his life, even at an early age as his parents nurtured him while on the farm. Derek cultivated these skills showing a caring nature to his sisters and later a larger farming community.
He pursued an education in animal science and loved to share his knowledge with peers and youth through 4-H, Dairy Quiz Bowl, and FFA. Later, Derek obtained his dream job of working at SeaWorld in San Antonio, TX, where he again expressed his love of God’s creation with his wonderful coworkers and friends.
Due to returning illness, he came back home to the support of a great community, where he volunteered and grew relationships with those who loved him. As he spent time with his exotic birds and farm animals upon his return home, Derek found peace and comfort in his relationship with God.
Derek quietly showed Christ’s love as a thoughtful conversationalist and listener, loving uncle, delicious baker, and a concerned caretaker to those around him who were hurting.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin Stoeckmann, and Ernst and Dorothy Dreier; and uncle Michael Stoeckmann.
Derek is survived by his loving family: parents Larry and Debra Dreier of Norwood Young America; sisters and brother-in-law Carissa and Adam Myers, Dayna Dreier, and Makayla Dreier, all of Norwood Young America; niece and nephew Grace and Levi Myers; and grandmother Carol Stoeckmann of Norwood Young America.
