Marilyn Ellingboe, 83

Marilyn Janet Lois Ellingboe, age 83, of St. Louis Park, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017.

She was born Nov. 9, 1933, the second of four children born to Emil and Esther (Wanha) Hasti.

Marilyn was raised in South Minneapolis, and graduated from South High.

She enjoyed many summers in Cokato.

Marilyn taught for 30 years in Minneapolis and Anoka- Hennepin school districts, and retired on her 68th birthday. She then worked at JC Penny for nine years.

Teaching Sunday school to countless children was a joy throughout her life, from which she retired this May.

Marilyn loved spending time with family, in her garden, camping, reading, and puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Paris for her 70th birthday; horseback riding in Montana, and to Michigan for St. John’s trips.

She opened her heart and her home to many over the years.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Esther (Wanha) Hasti; brother Curtis; sister Virginia; and son James.

She is survived by six children: Katie (Dave) Hendrickson of Dassel, Shirley Ellingboe of Crystal, Sarah Ellingboe of St. Cloud, John (Jonna) Ellingboe of Minneapolis, Mari (Tim) Johnson of Montrose, and Jenny (Habtamu) Tamiru of Plymouth; 19 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a sister, Caroline Luoma, and brothers Greorge (Deb) Hasti, and Roger (Kathy) Evenson.

Marilyn’s funeral service took place Tuesday, May 30 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Long Lake, with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment was at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
