Burton A. Euerle, 89

Burton “Burt” August Euerle, age 89, of Dassel, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home.

He was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Woodbury Township, Washington County, the fourth child of Albert Euerle Sr. and Clara (Ramthun) Euerle. Burton was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth in 1943, at St. Matthew’s Church in Forest City.

At the age of 3, Burton and his family moved to the family farm in Watkins, where he grew up. He attended school from first through eighth grade in District 71 in Meeker County, and then quit school and stayed home to work.

Burton entered active military service in the United States Army Nov. 28, 1945, at Fort Snelling, and served his country during World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge Dec. 6, 1946, at Fort Sill, OK, having achieved the rank of Private.

In 1953, Burton married Beulah Wendroth. They had three children; Donald, Dawn, and Esther.

Burton was united in marriage to Ardys Christensen Jan. 25, 1964, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with seven children, Cindy, Dean, Richard, David, Rhonda, Cheryl and Jeffrey.

Burton and Ardys resided and made several moves in the Litchfield, Hutchinson and Darwin areas, moving to Dassel in 1991. Burton and Ardys shared 52 years of marriage.

After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, Burton returned home to help his dad on the farm until 1950, when he went to work in a shingle factory in the Twin Cities.

He was employed as an auto mechanic for 30 years at various gas stations. Burton also worked at Anderson Crane in Litchfield as a painter for several years, until he was forced into retirement in 1990 by an injury.

A member of Lamson Evangelical Free Church in Dassel, Burton volunteered, doing numerous things with his church.

He enjoyed gardening, watching TV, and playing with his grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for his tiny Chihuahuas, Keesha and Benny. Burton especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Burton is survived by his wife, Ardys Euerle; children, Donald Euerle and his wife, Nancy of Eden Valley, Cynthia VanNurden of St. Cloud, Dean Euerle and his wife, Sue of Darwin, David Euerle and his wife, Terri of Litchfield, Cheryl Shumaker and her husband, Matthew of Island Lake, IL, and Jeffrey Euerle of Dassel; siblings Lenox Euerle and his wife, Joan of St. Cloud, Gerald Euerle and his wife, Audrey of Litchfield, Margaret Groskreutz of Buffalo, and Annette Knutson of Dassel; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Clara Euerle; daughters, Dawn Graff, Esther Grot, and Rhonda Euerle; son, Richard Euerle; brothers, Fred Euerle, William Euerle, and Albert Euerle Jr.; sister-in-law Ethel Euerle; brothers-in-law Algot Knutson Jr., and Louis Groskreutz; grandson, Eric Schroeder; and son-in-law, Trevor VanNurden.

A funeral service took place Friday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at Lamson Evangelical Free Church in Dassel, with interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements were with the Dobratz Hangte Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
