Edward Fasching, 90

Edward Andrew Fasching, age 90, of Winsted, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Winsted, the son of Joseph and Appolonia (Stifter) Fasching.

Edward was joined in holy marriage with Irene M. Metkowski May 3, 1949. God blessed their marriage with seven children.

Ed engaged in farming for his whole lifetime.

He was a faithful, lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Ed also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight.

He was a past board member of the Farmer’s Elevator.

Ed restored two tractors, and a Model A car. He enjoyed going to threshing shows and old farm equipment displays. He was fond of wood working, card playing, polka music, and dancing.

Ed loved being a father! He once said, “My job is being a farmer, my career is being a father.”

He is survived by his loving wife: Irene M. Fasching; children Cathy (Brian) Wolford of Winsted, Jeff (Mary) Fasching of Hutchinson, Colleen (Paul) Paurus of Cottage Grove, Lois Fasching of Winsted, Susan Sautel of Skokie, IL, and Kristine (Brent) Sherman of Lino Lakes; daughter-in-law Connie McTavish of Fridley; 20 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Ed is further survived by a brother, Jack Fasching of California; sisters Irene Otto of Lester Prairie, Grace Nolan of Maple Plain, Rose Mallak of New Ulm, and Linda Ruhland of New Prague; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Fasching; three brothers: Bert, Fintan, and Joe Fasching; three sisters: Clarina Mclnnes, Luella Kaczmarek, and Marietta Nowak; and a granddaughter, Valerie Paurus Ota.

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Paul Schumacher and Father Mark Mallak (Ed’s nephew) serving as the concelebrants. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

There was visitation Wednesday, May 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Knights of Columbus Rosary was recited at 5 p.m., and a parish prayer service took place at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Thursday morning at the funeral home, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Casket bearers were Neil Wolford, Kerri Fasching, Jacob Paurus, Brad Danielson, Eddie Sautel, Joshua Fasching, and Cassie Sherman.
