David Holmquist, age 80, of New Jersey, formerly of Cokato, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, in Gloucester County, VA.
Funeral services will take place Monday, Nov. 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato.
David was born May 14, 1937, in Litchfield. He grew up in Cokato, and graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School,
He served in the Navy, and was honorably discharged Nov. 12, 1961.
David then pursued a career in construction, owning and operating his own business until September 1989, when he took a position with the Angelini firm in New Jersey as a project manager. He retired in June of 2005.
David had attained his pilot’s license while employed at the Angelini firm, and often flew the company plane for work and for pleasure.
He enjoyed his retirement by making treasured gifts for his family, including furniture and jewelry; as well as traveling and exploring the entire country.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Fern Holmquist; brother Paul Holmquist; sister-in-law Belinda Holmquist; wife Joan Holmquist; and daughter Wendy Rae Holmquist.
He is survived by his loving family, including daughters Pamela Petersen of Pine Beach, NJ, and Heather Platt of Reno, NV; stepdaughter Pam McKnight of Toms River, NJ; stepsons Timothy Skaggs of Pemberton, NJ, and Shawn Homan of Browns Mills, NJ; granddaughters Hallie Petersen of Santa Monica, CA, and Heather Bolton of Delaware City, DE; brother Mike Holmquist of Cokato; and nephews Jeff Holmquist of Cokato, and Brent Holmquist of Dassel.
