Leonard F. Kieser, 82

Leonard Frank Kieser, age 82, of rural Winsted, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born June 2, 1935, in Winsted, the son of Martin and Catherine (Helmbrecht) Kieser.

Leonard was joined in holy marriage with Margaret V. Salmela Aug.24, 1957, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Leonard engaged in dairy farming west of Winsted for many years.

He was a lifelong, faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, where he served as a longtime church usher.

Leonard also was a past Winsted Township supervisor, and past board member of the Winsted Farmer’s Coop Creamery.

He was a member of the Winsted Sportsmen’s Club, and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards, custom butchering, walking, mushroom hunting, casinos, smoking fish, traveling, golfing and playing softball.

Leonard especially loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret V. “Muggs” Kieser; daughters Pam Gund of Brownsville, TX, Patty (Doug) Birkholz of Lester Prairie, and Karen (Dean) Mikolichek of Silver Lake; a son, Tom Kieser of Waverly; grandson Andy (Cheryl) Birkholz of Lester Prairie; granddaughter Amy (Robert) Parpart of Silver Lake; and great-grandsons Aiden and Ethen Parpart.

Leonard is further survived by brothers George Kieser, Joe (Janice) Kieser, Donald (Mary Anne) Kieser, and Jerry (Debbie) Kieser; sister-in-law Verna Quale; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Entinger, Dorothy Entinger, and Martha Rohling; a brother, Alfred Kieser; sisters-in-law Margaret Kieser and Helen Kieser; brothers-in-law Bill Rohling, Bud Entinger, Fred “Fritz” Entinger, Clifford Salmela, Jimmy Salmela and Clarence Salmela; son-in-law Jim Gund; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Fannie and Richard Salmela.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Father Paul Schumacher as the celebrant. Special music was provided by Joe and Janice Kieser. Organist was Alice Nowak, and reader for the Mass was Tony Kielkucki.

There was visitation Sunday, Aug. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Monday at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m.

Urn bearers were Don Kieser and Jerry Kieser. Honorary bearers were Andy Birkholz and Amy Parpart.
