Harlan D. Kieser, age 70, of Winsted, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Watertown, the son of Walter F. “Wally” and Arleen S. (Lohrke) Kieser.
Harlan graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1965.
He served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged March 21, 1972.
Harlan was employed at Sterner Lighting in Winsted as a draftsman and in sales for more than 20 years. He later worked at Uni-Hydro in Cosmos.
He served on the Winsted Fire Department for 24 years, from Sept. 1, 1969 to Dec.13, 1993; as assistant chief from 1979 to 1987, and chief from 1988 to 1993.
Harlan was a lifelong, faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.
He enjoyed softball, trap shooting, and golf.
Harlan is survived by two brothers, Darryl W. Kieser (fiancée Sherry Paschke), and Todd A. Kieser, all of Winsted; other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter F. “Wally” Kieser in 1986, and Arleen S. Kieser in 2012; and by a brother, Kevin L. Kieser in 2006.
Funeral services took place Monday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with Pastor David Hormann officiating. Sheryl Menden was the organist for the funeral service, and the soloist was Bruce Gatz. Interment followed with military rites at the Winsted Public Cemetery.
There was visitation Sunday, Aug. 20 at the church from 4 to 8 p.m., continuing Monday, one hour prior to the services.
Casket bearers were William and Jerome Roufs, Doug Telecky, Allan Uecker, Jim Brown, and Rick Menden.
