Agatha Mary “Aggie” Kunkel, age 85, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Lake Ridge in Buffalo.
She was born May 21, 1931, in St. Nicholas, MN, to John and Frances (Schreifels) Flaschenriem.
Aggie married Leo “Tony” Kunkel March 2, 1957. They moved to their hobby farm outside of Rockford in 1958.
Leo and Aggie enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and spending time with their family.
In addition to raising a family, Aggie enjoyed raising chicken, ducks, and geese in the early years. They also had a milking cow, and neighbors would buy milk and eggs from Aggie. She also loved gardening, and would share the bounty with family and friends.
In addition, Aggie also enjoyed sewing and made beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren. Her sly card playing and great hugs will be missed.
Aggie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Leo; parents; and four brothers.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Julie) Flaschenriem, Pete (Kathy) Kunkel, Mary (Todd) Schulze, Tim (Cindy) Kunkel, Ken (Monica) Kunkel, and Leo Kunkel; and 15 grandchildren: Steve, Dan, John, and Billy Kunkel, Anthony (Tanya) Schulze, Carrie (Michael) Stafford, Jordan (Jenna) Kunkel, Alex Kunkel, Lauren (Ben) Kirchner, Chris and Ben Kunkel, Katie and Kevin Kemp, and Allie and Wyatt Kunkel.
She is further survived by two great-grandsons, Wesley and Theo; two brothers; and six sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Feb. 11 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, with interment in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
There was visitation Friday, Feb. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service; continuing Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall, prior to Mass.
Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
