John ‘Jack’ Parpart, 70

John “Jack” Charles Parpart, age 70, of Lester Prairie, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born April 6, 1947, in Glencoe, to Vernon and Elsie (Zumhofe) Parpart. John was baptized as an infant April 27, 1947, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg; and confirmed in his faith as a youth March 26, 1961, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

John graduated from Lester Prairie Public School in 1965.

After graduation, he entered the United States Army, serving in Germany and also Vietnam.

When John completed his four years of active duty, he came home to Lester Prairie and started farming with his dad, Vernon. In 1980, Vernon decided to retire from farming, so John and his youngest brother, Jim, went into a partnership in the farming business lasting 22 years. John then farmed 10 more years with his nephew, Bob, before retiring.

John enjoyed visiting with people, especially with his nieces and nephews. He had a fantastic memory, and could tell you the stats from baseball and football games, when wars started, and he remembered stories told to him about relatives from the past.

He also enjoyed going to Legion bowling tournaments, and bowling at Pla Mor Lanes and other local bowling alleys, trying to perfect his game.

John was a gentle man when it came to his farm animals, nursing them back to health with a loving hand. The morning he passed away, he was helping his nephews, Mark and Joel, on the farm. John was a true farmer until the day he died.

John is survived by his brothers and sisters: Juliene Klaustermeier, and her fiancé, Dan Hoen, of Waconia, William “Buddy” Parpart and his wife, Mary, of Plato, Mary Lou Mielke and her husband, Ron, of Glencoe, and Jim Parpart and his wife, Sheila, of Lester Prairie; nephews Mark (Nissa) Klaustermeier, Tom Klaustermeier, Joel (Chris) Klaustermeier, Nathan (Mandy) Parpart, Jason (Jamie) Mielke, Dan (Sara) Mielke, Robert (Amy) Parpart, and Charles (Summer) Parpart; and nieces Julie (Charlie) Steinhagen, Jayne Klaustermeier, Rachel (Ryan) Demlow, Jennifer (fiance: Jed) Mielke, and Angela Parpart.

He is further survived by 23 great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles, Barb Parpart of Lester Prairie, Sarah Buckentin of Glencoe, and Harold Zumhofe and his wife, Mildred, of Hamburg; other relatives, and many friends.
