Carolyn Jean Poirier, age 68, of rural Waverly, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at home, surrounded by family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Father Kenneth O’Hotto will be the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
There will also be visitation at the church Friday, Jan. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers will be Ronald Pierson, Gabrial Patin, Devin Melcher, Clayton Poirier, Donnie Poirier, and Charles Poirier.
In lieu of flowers, make a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Carolyn was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Kiron, IA, the daughter of Carl and Doris (Bennett) Pierson.
Carolyn and Gary J. Poirier were joined in holy marriage May 20, 1978, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Carolyn was a volunteer at school, church, and at the hospital; and a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.
She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Carolyn also was fond of shopping for other people, and was a generous person.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gary J. Poirier; children Carla (Larry) Patin of Lake Forest, CA, Mary (James) Ames of Cloquet, Tammy Poirier of Carlton, and Gary (Leah) Poirier Jr. of Sebeka; grandchildren Stephanie, Devin, Gabriel, Sarah, Rebekah, Lily and Damian; a great-grandchild, Addison; siblings Terry Pierson, Sue (Charlie) Winkler, and Jan (John) Martin; and other relatives and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant siblings at birth, Linda Kay and Lynn Ray; a sister, Judy Bennett; and by a brother, Carl “Butch” Pierson.
