Marvin J. Schaar Obituary – 6/30/2017


Marvin James Schaar, age 78, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, June 30, 2017.

He was born April 24, 1939, in Rockford Township, Wright County, the son of John and Lillie (Kettenacker) Schaar.

Marvin graduated from Rockford High School.

He enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years; two-and-a-half years were spent in Japan.

Marvin worked as a merchandise receiver for Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis.

He was a member of the Montrose Lions, Crow Valley American Legion, and Buffalo American Legion.

Marvin enjoyed genealogy, puzzles, and in his younger years, snowmobiling and playing softball – he had played, coached, and run softball leagues.

He was a lifelong member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Schaar; an infant sister; sister, Irmgard (Art) Tombers; and brothers, John (Ann) Schaar, and Walter (Sandy) Schaar.

He is survived by his brother, George (Pat) Schaar of Howard Lake; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services took place Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at Cross Ev. Lutheran Church in Rockford, with Pastor Michael T. Barlow officiating. There was private family interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
