Robert Schermann, 80

Robert Douglas Schermann, age 80, of Howard Lake, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at his residence.

He was born July 15, 1937, in Watertown, the son of Louis and Agnes (Keglar) Schermann.

At the age of 8, Bob contracted polio and was in and out of the hospital for the next two years. Despite his adversities in life, he accomplished a lot.

He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1955, and later attended the Minnesota School of Business.

Robert was joined in holy marriage with Lucille Keigan Aug. 13, 1960, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin. God blessed their marriage with two daughters.

Bob was employed for 35 years at Model Stone & Ready Mix and at Aggregate Industries as an accountant. He also worked for 19 years in shoe repair.

Bob and Lucy enjoyed wintering in Tucson, AZ for 20 years.

Bob served on the Howard Lake-Waverly School Board for six and a half years, and the Wright County Board of Adjustments for 25 years, and served as chairman for many of those years.

He enjoyed gardening, canning, the out-of-doors, and had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh!

Bob was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lucille “Lucy” Schermann; daughters Deborah Schermann of St. Anthony Park, and Joy (Jeff) Shockley of Howard Lake; grandchildren Matthew Schermann (Princess Bautista) of Tucson, AZ, Samuel Sween, and Ava Matthews, both of St. Anthony Park; a great-grandchild, Rylee Schermann of Tucson, AZ; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Aug. 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly at 11 a.m., with Father Kenneth O’Hotto as the celebrant. The St. Mary’s church choir provided special music.

Private inurnment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.

There was visitation at the church, from 9 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the Mass.

Honorary bearers were Michael Zachmann, Steven Zachmann, Daniel Zachmann, Lanny Lachermeier, Ronald Zachmann, and Garner Diers.

Urn bearer was Michael Zachmann.
