John Peter Scheveck, age 81, of Howard Lake, passed away Wednesday, July 12 at St. Mary’s Care Center of Winsted.
He was born March 27, 1936, in Geneseo, ND, to Louis and Amelia (Povlitzki) Scheveck. He grew up and attended grade school in Geneseo, went to High School in Lidgerwood, ND, and graduated in 1954.
John first attended college at North Dakota School of Science, now called North Dakota State College of Science. He then went on to the University of North Dakota and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1958.
He went on to grad school at UND and completed his master’s degree in 1962.
John married Lois Arlene Jereski Aug. 24, 1957.
John was a teacher in Argyle, MN, from 1958-1966; and served as principal 1966-67. In 1967, the family moved to Howard Lake, where John served as principal of the high school until he retired in 1992.
John enjoyed woodworking, reading, and collecting sports cards and comic books.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Howard Lake; children Mark (Patti) Scheveck of Crystal, Julie Harrington of Roberts, WI, and Mike (Bonnie) Scheveck of Brooklyn Center; grandchildren Kelly, Abby, Sophia, and Andrea; and siblings Clarence Scheveck, Eleanor (Peter) Paczkowski, Edward (Joan) Scheveck, Marlys Novotny, and Mary Ann Scheveck.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Amelia; a son, Paul; and an infant sister.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, July 17 at 11 a.m. St. Mary’s Church of Waverly; followed by interment in the church cemetery.
