Frances Schmieg, 88

Frances T. “Frannie” Schmieg, age 88, of Victoria, passed away Tuesday Nov. 7, 2017, at Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Laketown Township, the daughter of Francis and Theresa (Bovy) Poppler. Frances was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Schmieg June 8, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Frances took great pride in making many wonderful meals for her family. One of her favorite things to bake was homemade bread.

A very spiritual woman, Frannie attended church on a daily basis for most of her life.

She had a sweet demeanor, and was a very kind, patient, and loving person, never saying a bad thing about anyone.

Frannie and her husband, Ray took care of the St. Victoria Catholic Cemetery for over 40 years, mowing the lawn and keeping the grounds pristine.

Frances liked to vegetable and flower garden, and canned quarts of different vegetables every year. She had a number of hobbies, which included crocheting, quilting with Ray, listening to polka music, and reading the newspaper regularly.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son-in-law Paul Radde; parents Francis and Theresa Poppler; sisters Rose Meuwissen, and Kathy Quast; brother Richard Poppler; brothers-in-law Florian Eder, and Bill Schroeder; and sister-in-law Barb Poppler.

She is survived by her loving family: children and spouses Linda and Dick Drackley, Steve and Nancy Schmieg, Bob and Doris Schmieg, Wayne and Anne Schmieg, Mary and Jeff Meuleners, Joanne Schmieg and Kathy Korpi, Barb Radde, Rita and Ray Quist, Tom and Mary Schmieg, Greg and Jennifer Schmieg, Connie and Ron Jeurissen, Cindy and Leon Worm, and Tracy and Steve Edsill; and grandchildren and spouses Kris and Don Heidemann, Jordan and Blake Hansen, Keith Schmieg, Craig and Amy Schmieg, Sarah and Brian Sandeen, Jason and Amy Schmieg, Becky and Jason Kamrath, Josh and Tanya Schmieg, Carrie and Ryan Lowe, Ellen and Scott Enebo, Beth Schmieg, Emily and Colby Judd, Katie and Chris Miller, Melanie and Chad Menth, David and Jamie Meuleners, Jessica and Corey Martin, Ryan Lehman, Justin and Natalie Lehman, Callie Lehman, Tia Schmieg, Madeline Schmieg, Grant Schmieg, Carolyn Schmieg, Eric Schmieg, Carter Jeurissen, Megan Jeurissen, Eddie Worm, Grace Edsill, Anna Edsill, and Nora Edsill.

Frances is further survived by great-grandchildren Andy Heidemann, Will Heidemann, Reese Hansen, Beckett Hansen, Brady Schmieg, Bo Schmieg, Kasen Sandeen, Kyle Sandeen, Jayden Schmieg, Taylan Kamrath, Jaycee Kamrath, Ashlyn Schmieg, Tyler Schmieg, Dylan Lowe, Finley Lowe, Margo Enebo, Gwen Enebo, Calvin Judd, Wendy Judd, Jacob Menth, Mitchell Menth, Benjamin Menth, Alexis Meuleners, Elizabeth Meuleners, Brooklyn Meuleners, Camden Martin, Quinn Martin, Brody Lehman, Gavin Lehman, and Reese Lehmann; sisters and brother-in-law Sally Eder, Sister Mary Ann Poppler SCC, Laura Schroeder, and Barbara and Bob Larsen; brothers and sisters-in-law Gerald and Geraldine Poppler, Charlie Poppler, and Leander and Chrys Poppler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Eugene and Helen Meuwissen, Arlene Poppler, Merlin Quast, Sylvester Schmieg, Lorna Schmieg, Beatrice Mechtel, and Roseanne and Leonard Rotzien; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria with Father Bob White as celebrant of the Mass. Interment was in the church cemetery.

There was visitation Friday Nov. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a chapel service at 8 p.m.; and continuing Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Frances’ grandchildren were her casket bearers.
