LaVay I. Streich, 93

LaVay Inez (Peterson) Streich, age 93, of Howard Lake, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Care Center.

She was born July 23, 1923, in Henning, MN, to Millard and Lorraine Peterson; the oldest of four children.

LaVay graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked at a department store in Minneapolis.

In high school, she met the love of her life, Ralph Streich, and in 1945, they were married at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Together they had four children; Gary, Judy, Rick, and Steve. As a family, they made their home on a farm between Howard Lake and Waverly.

LaVay spent many years working on the farm, homemaking, raising Norwegian Elkhound dogs, and she sold Avon products for extra money.

LaVay and her family were members of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. They loved to go on vacation every summer to a lake up north, as well as trips to Montana and North Dakota.

For fun, LaVay enjoyed bingo and playing cards. She loved her time on the farm, and especially cherished her candy.

During her last years, LaVay made her home at Elim Nursing Home, and recently at Good Samaritan Center.

She is survived by her children; Gary (Rita) Streich, Judy (Steve) Gagnon, and Rick (Michelle) Streich; daughter-in-law Mary Streich and her brother Butch; many grandchildren; Carrie (Dusty) Dirks, Jackie (Kyle) Thompson, Chad (Katie) Gagnon, Dean (Jen) Gagnon, Jenna (Kyle) Wills, Jake (Anna) Streich, Mathew Streich, Chelsea (Grant) Wickesberg, Stephanie (Joey) Graczyk, Jessica Streich, Ryan (Amy) Streich, and Brittany Long; and 24 great-grandchildren.

LaVay was proceeded in death by her parents, Millard and Lorraine; her husband of 48 years, Ralph; her youngest son, Steve (T.T.); her sisters, Avis and Darlene; and her brother in-law, Don Streich.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

LaVay’s grandchildren were her pallbearers; Carrie Dirks, Chad Gagnon, Dean Gagnon, Jake Streich, Matthew Streich, and Ryan Streich.
