Glenna Sturman Obituary – 3/5/2017


Glenna Mariah Sturman, age 100, of Cokato, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the Cokato Manor.

She was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Litchfield, to Fredrick and Louisa (Venske) Drews.

Glenna grew up in the Litchfield area, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, and graduated from Litchfield High School.

After high school Glenna went on to beauty college in Minneapolis. She worked at a beauty parlor in Minneapolis for a time, then started her own business at her home.

Glenna married Royal Delmont Sturman Dec. 31, 1944. To this union, four children were born.

The family made their home first in Maple Grove, and later in Maple Plain. Following Royal’s retirement, they moved to Dassel in 1975. Royal passed away in 1984, and Glenna eventually moved to Cokato.

Glenna enjoyed being a beauty operator. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening, reading, and dancing (polka). Her family was most important to her.

Glenna is survived by her son, Dan Sturman of Cokato; grandchildren Steve, Michael, Shawn, Randy, Thomas, Sally, Robin, Sandy, and Melissa; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Royal, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Louisa; children Dennis, James, and Patricia; and brothers and sister Adeline, Edwin, Erna, and Erwin.

A funeral service took place Saturday March 11 at 11 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment was at Delano City Cemetery

Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cokato & Howard Lake handled the arrangements.
