Lorraine D. Volkenant, age 82, of Watertown, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at the Estates in Delano.
She was born March 11, 1935, in Watertown, the daughter of Fred and Virginia (Justus) Rumpza.
Lorraine was united in marriage to Richard J. Volkenant Oct. 19, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Lorraine had a great sense of humor, keeping the mood in the room relaxed. She had a very distinctive laugh which everyone could identify with.
Lorraine did random acts of kindness, handing out ornaments to anyone during the Christmas season. She hosted monthly pinochle card parties with Jana’s high school classmates for the past 15 years.
She had a spring fling and a Fall Frolic with her co-workers at Prudential, which everyone looked forward to. She also enjoyed bird watching, crafting, and reading in her spare time.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Virginia Rumpza.
She in survived by her loving family: husband Richard Volkenant; daughter and son-in-law Jana and Paul Leung of Hopkins; grandsons Andrew Leung and Christopher Leung; sister Lois Nussbaum of Watertown; twin brother Loren (Gloria Larson) Rumpza of Buffalo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gerald and Mary Volkenant of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Jeffrey Engholm officiating, There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
