Kenneth Westrup, 68

Kenneth Anthony Westrup, age 68, of rural Cokato, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1948, in Glencoe, the son of Leonard and Ann (Remer) Westrup.

Ken graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Winsted in 1966.

He honorably served his country in the US Army from 1969 to 1971.

Kenneth was joined in holy matrimony with Karen E. Kohler Oct. 4, 1974, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father John Brunner. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Ken and Gene Fasching owned and operated the Winsted Body Shop for many years. Later, Ken worked for Steve Hendrickson, an independent Corvette collector, for 15 years.

Ken enjoyed walleye and bass fishing, going to car swap meets, and tinkering with old cars. He loved his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ken was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and also belonged to Kingston American Legion Post 483.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Karen E. Westrup; children: Sarah (Steven) Moe, Mathew Westrup, and Breanna Westrup; three grandchildren: Mitchel, Grace and Mason Moe; his mother, Ann Westrup; sisters and a brother: Mary Ann (Roy) Nelson, Helen Ekberg, Ramona (John) Fillar, Leona (Greg) Irmiter, David Westrup, and Kathy (Louis) Quast; mother-in-law Lorraine Kohler; brothers-in-law Lyle (Faith) Kohler and Doug (Donna) Kohler; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Westrup; a son, Nathan P. “Nate” Westrup; a brother, Linus Westrup; father-in-law Benjamin “Ben” Kohler; brother-in-law Jerry Ekberg; a niece, Leah Westrup; and a nephew, Jared Westrup.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Paul Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment with military rites took place at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

There was visitation Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continuing Wednesday morning, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Greg Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Brent Machtemes, Bruce Machtemes, Ben Kohler, and Gary Brusven.
