Lois L. Winter, 90

Lois Lissette Winter, age 90, of West Union, IA, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, IA.

Funeral services will take place Monday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, IA, with the Rev. Ginny Olson as the officiant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Eldorado.

There was visitation Sunday, May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, IA, continuing Monday one hour prior to the services at the church..

Burnham-Wood-Grau, West Union, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.

Lois was born March 12, 1927, in rural Elgin, IA, to Harry and Elma (Meyer) Reichert. She graduated from West Union High School with the class of 1945.

Lois was united in marriage with Donald Peter Winter Oct. 15, 1946, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, IA. Three children were born to this union. The couple farmed together until Donald’s death, Jan. 31, 1986.

Lois enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, canning, gardening, painting, and playing cards. She and Donald enjoyed attending square dances and ballroom dances.

Lois was involved in WELCA at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4-H, and the Friendly Homemakers Club. She was a wonderful cook – making special cakes or pies for birthdays, cutting out and frosting holiday cookies with the grandchildren, and feeding everyone treats who stopped to visit.

Lois loved holidays, decorating inside and out, and made many Halloween costumes over the years. She liked to go for drives in the country, and had a great sense of humor and loved to tease.

Most of all, Lois loved spending time with her family and traveling with her children.

She was a resident of Traditions for eight years.

Lois is survived by her three children, Marsha Ruby of Postville, IA, John (Marsha) Winter of West Union, IA, and Dean (Kim) Winter of Dassel; three grandchildren, Joshua (Bonnie) Ruby, Jamie Winter, and Emily Winter; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Benjamin Ruby; and one sister-in-law, Jean Dickman.

In addition to her husband, Donald, Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elma Reichert; a granddaughter, Sara Winter; a brother, Lyle Reichert; and a sister, Lavon Reichert.
