Dorothy L. Bjork Obituary – 5/21/2018


Dorothy L. Bjork, age 88, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Cokato, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at Lincolnshire Memory Care Facility in Rockford, IL, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease, and dementia.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, June 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Milestone, Inc. 4060 McFarland Road, Rockford, IL 61111; to be used towards a nursing scholarship fund for the much needed nurses at Milestone, Inc.; or to Rush University Medical Center for Alzheimer’s Research, 1201 W. Harrison St. Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60607-3319.

Dorothy was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Cokato, the daughter of Walter and Rhoda Tack.

She graduated from Cokato High School, and attended college in Minneapolis.

Dorothy married William Bjork Feb. 6, 1954, in Rockford, IL; he preceded her in death May 16, 2006.

Dorothy had worked for the Rockford School Board and Toledo Screw Machine Products, but most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her passions were gardening, traveling, reading, and staying in contact with family and friends.

Dorothy shared kindness with everyone she met, and had a sense of humor loved by all.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) Wiggs; son, Alan (MaryAnn) Bjork; grandchildren Benjamin Bjork of Walnut Creek, CA, and Dr. Alison Bjork-Pease (Dr. Eric) of Rochester, MN; a sister, Lois Marander; brother Paul Tack; cousins; nieces; nephews; and longtime friends. In addition to her husband, William; she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Don, and his wife, Jan; brother Marvin Tack; and several other family members and dear friends.
