Melissa ‘Mel’ Buss, 30

Melissa “Mel” Irene Buss, age 30, of Eden Prairie, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 6, 2018, at Fairview Southdale in Edina. Melissa provided lifesaving gifts by donating her liver and kidneys.

She was born April 13, 1988, in Robbinsdale, the beloved daughter of Tim and DeAnn (Wolff) Buss.

Melissa was baptized shortly after birth April 13, 1988, by the Rev. Henry Fry. She was confirmed Oct. 26, 2003, by Pastor Rod Anderson at St. Andrew, Eden Prairie.

Melissa graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 2007, where she lettered in drama, performing the annual Y’s Act Play.

She worked at MRCI in Chaska.

Melissa came into this world prematurely and spent three months in the North Memorial NICU. Near the end of July, Melissa was transferred to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital under the care of Dr. Bill Wheeler. She became strong enough to go home on Halloween. Her last day on the vent was June 11, 1989.

Melissa had incredible spirit and was a tremendous fighter, overcoming many medical challenges. As she grew, she developed her beautiful wit and charm that we all loved. She could also be quite devious.

A kind-hearted person who brought much happiness into the lives of those she touched, Melissa’s favorite time of the year was summer. She was an avid milk drinker, and loved swimming, reading, researching topics on the internet, boating, and mostly, spending time with her family.

Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lew and Marceil Buss, and Elaine Wolff; great-grandparents Elvira Wolff, Emma and Hilmer Lemke, and Hazel Killinger; and cousin Ashley Meuwissen.

She is survived by her loving parents, Tim and DeAnn Buss; brother Corey Buss; sister Megan Buss; grandfather Duane Wolff of Young America; aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles; nurse and special friend, Melanie Voris of St James City, FL; and other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service took place Friday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie, with Pastor David Lillejord as the officiant. The eulogy was given by Doug Erlien. Interment was at Eden Prairie Cemetery.

There was visitation Thursday, July 12 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Huber Funeral Home in Eden Prairie.

Pall bearers were Tim and DeAnn Buss, Corey and Megan Buss, Jeremy Meuwissen, and Doug Erlien.
