David Scott Elmquist, age 24, of Plymouth, formerly of Cokato, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
His funeral service will take place Friday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato, with Pastor Rob Edwards officiating. Interment of the urn will take place in the spring at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Cemetery.
There was a time to gather with the family Thursday, Feb. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, and continuing Friday, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to help with medical expenses are preferred, and can be directed to Emily Elmquist.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is handling the arrangements.
David was born Feb. 24, 1993, in Buffalo, the son of Scott and Nancy (Burslie) Elmquist. He was baptized and confirmed at the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato.
David grew up in rural Cokato, and attended Dassel-Cokato High School, graduating in 2011. He continued his education by attending the Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Plymouth.
David had been employed at Ron’s Service Station in Dassel, and then traveled to North Dakota to work in the oil fields with his brother, Eric.
He was united in marriage to Emily Manninen March 11, 2017, at the Landmark Center in St. Paul. The couple made their home in Plymouth, where David had been employed by Bergerson-Caswell, Inc. in Maple Plain, working on a water well digging rig doing well treatment and maintenance.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends for holidays and special get togethers. He had a special spot in his heart for his nieces and nephews.
He also loved to spend time skiing, golfing, playing Xbox, and watching and rooting for the Vikings; and could often be found playing and going for walks with his dog, Mosely.
David will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Emily (Manninen) Elmquist; parents, Scott and Nancy Elmquist of Cokato; siblings, Amy (Erik) Hartsoch of Ray, ND; Eric (April) Elmquist of Tioga, ND; and Seth (Nicole) Elmquist of Buffalo; and six nieces and nephews, Ben Hartsoch, Jake Hartsoch, Michael Hartsoch, Ellery Hartsoch, Madi Elmquist, and Myles Elmquist.
David is further survived by his maternal grandmother, Ellen Burslie of McIntosh, MN; paternal grandmother, Lorraine Elmquist of Cokato; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eric and Jackie Manninen of Annandale; three sisters-in-law, Hailey Manninen; Maila Manninen; and Tarja Manninen, all of Annandale; and a brother-in-law, Logan Manninen of Annandale.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Birdean Burslie; paternal grandfather, Bill Elmquist; and an uncle, James Burslie.
