LuAnn Emich, age 80, of Waconia, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018.
LuAnn was born and raised in Plato. After eighth grade graduation, she entered Glencoe High School and graduated in 1955, as the class valedictorian.
LuAnn entered the business world as a secretary to Ann Crowley in the food service department at Abbott Hospital. After Abbott closed its doors, she helped her husband, Roger, at the Burl Oaks Country Club with inventory and tournaments on a part-time basis.
LuAnn took a seasonal job as a para-mutual teller at Canterbury Downs. She worked her way to supervisor on a line and worked the $50 window.
Later, Roger and LuAnn packed their bags and moved to Phoenix, AZ. There, LuAnn took a job at Turf Paradise Racetrack, and after two years, was appointed to supervisor in the Paddock Lounge until 2011, when she retired.
In 2013, LuAnn and Roger returned to Minnesota and rented an apartment at the Crossings in Wayzata.
LuAnn enjoyed reading and watching TV.
She volunteered her body to the University of Minnesota for research and cremation, and her ashes will be returned to her husband. There will be no memorial service.
