Alden Enger, 77

Alden “Al” Jerome Enger, age 77, of Lester Prairie, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born April 4, 1941, in Montevideo, the son of Alvin and Gladys (Rikki) Enger.

Al graduated from Granite Falls High School, and later attended the University of Minnesota and Dunwoody Institute.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army, serving in Berlin.

Alden was joined in holy marriage with Georgine B. Betker Aug. 7, 1965, at Main Street Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.

Al was formerly employed for 40 years at Honeywell, and hog and crop farmed in Winsted Township, McLeod County.

He served 18 years on the Lester Prairie School Board, and on the Winsted Township Board.

Al was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He also belonged to the VFW.

Al enjoyed John Deere tractors, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Georgine; daughters Michelle (Bill) Radtke of Lester Prairie, and Sheri (Mike) Schrupp of Cologne; grandchildren Aleksey (special friend Josh), Jordan, Emily Grace, and Maddux; a great- granddaughter, Aubree Kae; a sister, Mavis Larson of Waconia; a brother, Gary (Mattie) Enger of Watertown, SD; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerome (Bonnie) Betker of Dassel, Duane (Carole) Betker of Minneapolis, and Gaylyn Betker of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Al was preceded in death by a daughter, Krista Enger; his parents, Alvin and Gladys Enger; a brother, Floyd Enger; and by his parents-in-law, George and Esther Betker.

Funeral services took place Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Interment with military rites followed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

There was visitation Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation continued Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Bill Radtke, Mike Schrupp, Jim Larson, Steve Larson, Erling Jerpseth, and Woody Haaland.
