Maynard Kirchoff Obituary – 1/25/2018


Maynard Elmer Kirchoff, age 85, of Mayer, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born March 18, 1932, in Round Grove Township of McLeod County, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Miller) Kirchoff.

Maynard was baptized April 3, 1932, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart with the Rev. C.H. Kowalske as officiant; and later confirmed his faith at the same church June 23, 1946, with the Rev. M.A. Schulz officiating. His confirmation verse was Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Maynard graduated from the Stewart High School in May 1951.

He was united in marriage with Norma Karg May 28, 1960, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Maynard suffered the death of his wife, Norma Nov. 2, 1999.

He married LuAnn (Baumann) Klemp April 15, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, with the Rev. Peter Meier officiating.

Maynard was a quiet, kind, and gentle man who loved to talk farming whenever he had the opportunity. He enjoyed old tyme music and dancing, and playing card games such as sheephead and 500.

Maynard liked to travel, especially organized bus trips. He enjoyed attending his niece and nephew’s activities and the sporting events of his step-grandchildren; and was proud to be a godfather to his great- nephew Christopher.

In addition to his first wife, Norma, Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bertha Kirchoff; and brother-in-law Weldon Baumann.

He is survived by his wife, LuAnn Kirchoff of Mayer; sister Geraldine (Maynard) Grenke of Glencoe; step-children Rachel (John) Bening of Waconia, Ruth (Corey) Weikle of Chanhassen; and step grandchildren Maria Bening, Jonathon (fiancée Megan) Weikle, Sarah Bening, and Lauren Weikle.

Maynard is further survived by his niece, Carol (Jack) McMullin of Excelsior; great nephew and niece Christopher McMullin and Whitney McMullin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Virgil Baumann, Harlan and Cheryl Baumann, and Twylla Baumann; other relatives, and many friends.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, with the Rev. Adam Gless as officiant. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Stewart.

Serving as casket bearers were Jack McMullin, Christopher McMullin, John Bening, Corey Weikle, Bill Adelmann, and Bob Adelmann.
