Wesley W. “Wes” Lampher, age 81, of Hastings, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, surrounded by his family at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.
He was born May 22, 1936, in Bergen Township, on his family’s farm, the son of Edwin K. and Lillian (Breyer) Lampher.
Wes was baptized into the Christian faith June 7, 1936, and reaffirmed his faith through Confirmation April 7, 1950.
He graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1954; and played Minnesota AAA Baseball in 1954-55.
Wes served in the National Guard in 1955-56, and was active in the Army 1957-59 on the European Army-Air Force baseball team.
He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
Wes married Janice M. Karels, his high school sweetheart, June 22, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. To this union, three daughters were born.
Wes and family moved to Hastings in 1968, with Schwartz Mfg., and later founded and owned two businesses in Hastings, LCL Truck Equipment, and Western Wheels.
Wes was a member of Southern Hills Golf Course, and the Optimists Club, where he served as a lieutenant governor at the state level.
He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, serving in many offices.
Wes loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting and golf. He was a handyman and enjoyed spending time with friends. He loved his family and also loved telling many stories.
Wes enjoyed singing hymns, and listening to polka and country music. He and Jan enjoyed their winters with friends in Texas.
Above all, Wes was a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and in-laws, Harold and Deloris Karels.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice Lampher of Hastings; daughters and sons-in-law Julie K. and Paul Folkerts of Carleton, Lori M. and Dave Nelson of Omaha, and Nancy L. and Russell Craft of Biloxi, MS; and sisters Aurelia Strei of Lester Prairie, and Mildred Dibb of Minneapolis.
He is also survived by grandchildren and spouses: Brad and Noel Richardson, Emily and Alex Paczkowski, all of Hastings, Jeff and Halley Richardson of Omaha, Paxton Folkerts of Bruning, Chandler Folkerts of Lincoln, Derek Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Haleigh Nelson, Dillon Nelson, and Dalton Nelson, all of Omaha, Spencer Turkington and fiancée Shelby Ring of Nashville, TN, Hayden Turkington of Knoxville, TN, and Hudson Jones of Nashville, TN; and great-grandchildren Brayson Richardson, Hudson Richardson, Harper Richardson, Tenley Paczkowski and Blakely Paczkowski, all of Hastings.
In addition, Wes is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Joyce and Larry Burandt of Lester Prairie, and David H. and Kim Karels of Waverly.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings veterans organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings.
Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or LCMS St. Louis Seminary Student Scholarship Fund.
